Monthly Archives: January 2011

Each year, as the days get shorter, I always find myself looking back at my year. My accomplishments & failures, my adventures, happy moments and everything in between. It is a great time to look back and see everything that has happened and start to think about where to go next. What a great thing! After looking back, I feel so lucky to have experienced so many great things in 2010, traveled to so many cool places and was able to share so many special wedding days with my clients. Let’s take a look at some of my lovely clients and some of the cool places that I’ve been this year!

The year started with my first trip to WPPI! I was able to spend so much time with my Italy Peeps and my roomie Mthreestudio as well as meet some new photographer friends. It was such a great experience and I’ll be attending WPPI in 2011 as well. Can’t wait! My friend Laura Ivanova, one of The Italy Girls, put together this gorgeous shoot out in the desert while we were in Vegas. Our friend, and Italian model, Giordano Pellegri was our model for the session. Gio is coming to WPPI 2011 (all the way from Italy) if any photographers out there need a handsome model!

In April, I photographed Sarah & Steve’s rustic farm wedding in Georgia along with all of their cotton blossom details. Loved the cotton!

Then, Chelsea & Reese’s Mexico Destination Wedding was featured in Destination Weddings & Honeymoon Magazine! So thrilled that one of their images was chosen for their Mexico feature article!

I photographed Jeremy & Jessica’s wedding in Charlotte, North Carolina. The groomsmen were a trip and so dapper in their grey suits & aviators. Oh, and did I mention that they ALL grey mustache’s JUST for Jeremy’s wedding? That’s a dedicated friendship.

One of my favorite weddings from the year was Lindsey & Tyler’s gorgeous, gorgeous wedding at The Atlanta Botanical Garden! The florals by Amy Osaba were absolutely stunning and the design flowed so well with the garden setting. Special thanks to Jenica Johnson & Molly of Mthreestudio for helping me out with this beautiful wedding!

Oh June, June was so crazy busy. Here we go… First, I started out by taking a trip to second shoot with Mthreestudio! This was my very first trip to Milwaukee, and even Wisconsin. It was the first of three trips in 2010 to The Badger State. And, not to mention, I was introduced to “squeaky cheese” or cheese curds and loved them – the yellow, the white cheese, fried, baked, melted, chilled, you name it. Ok, back to weddings…I was so honored that Molly asked me to second shoot with her for Katie & Chris’s wedding. The wedding was held at the historic Cuneo Mansion & gardens which is where “My Best Friend’s Wedding” was filmed. It was a perfect location for a wedding with the beautiful grounds & historic mansion. Love.

June can get hot in Georgia, really hot. And Joslyn & Austin’s wedding day was hot. But, everyone kept cool thanks to Lindsay Pitt of Toast Events, who planned & coordinated the day. Joslyn & Austin held a private, cool, beach-themed wedding at a private residence in Atlanta. The reception was one of my favorite receptions of all time. It was held in a tent (with AC) draped with white fabric, fans blowing, it was a dream. A Jimmy Buffet tribute band (another favorite of mine) played tunes all evening while the draped fabric ceiling glowed to a show of LED, colored lights. This was the most perfectly lit reception ever. The reception photos were so beautiful with all the different colors & soft white light spread across the dance floor.

Next, it was off to another new state, Minnesota where I second shot two weddings with the creative & talented Laura Ivanova! The weddings were totally different, one was a farm wedding and one was an elegant affair in a historic, old library. I am a sucker for historic architecture, and I don’t get much of that down in Georgia, so I was thrilled! Here’s an image of Ann & Noel on the steps of the old library. This wedding was also featured here in Style Me Pretty and most recently graced a two-page spread in Town & Country Weddings – Congrats Laura!

Straight from Minnesota, I jetted off to LA to meet a few of The Italy Girls. We spent a few days in Malibu and put together a little shoot in the warm, California sunshine. It was so fun to see Jen, Yazy and Mireen (who came all the way from Germany!)

We were also able to head up to see our friends Jose & Joel and had a lovely dinner in Los Olivos. The scenery was so beautiful!

And if I hadn’t traveled enough in June…I jetted back to Atlanta, landed, spent a few hours home, and then drove to Charleston, South Carolina for my secret photoshoot for Southern Weddings Magazine! Oooh, this was so fun. I was running on adrenaline at this point (and had injured my foot way back in Minnesota) and limping around, setting up a beautiful tablescape on the marsh at sunset. The next day, we shot the models at the beach on the second hottest day of the year, then finished off the shoot on a beautiful sailboat at sunset in Charleston Harbor. It was a dream!

After a little rest, July led to more personal traveling and this trip to Kentucky for Brittany & Pat’s Love / Anniversary shoot!

The summer rounded out with Wendy & Jeremy’s wedding that I second shot for Robin Nathan. The wedding was held at the beautiful Ritz Carlton in downtown Atlanta. Robin is so fun to work with and we had such a great time shooting together.

2010 was the year of babies. I think I lost count around 9 of my friends who had babies this year. August brought little Nolan to my friends Beri & Brian, who modeled for their maternity shoot earlier in the summer. I don’t typically do maternity shoots, but Beri & Brian are so cute together and were beyond excited for their new bundle of joy to be born.

In September, my sister got married in our hometown in Ohio. I just love this photo at an old suspension bridge.

I was also lucky enough to photograph a secret proposal disguised as dog portraits. We totally caught Erin off-guard and she was so surprised. I just love her reaction! Congrats Erin & Michael!

Then, it was off to Milwaukee again for Jessica & Nate’s farm wedding.

And oh, October. It was almost as busy as June with lots of travel. I came home for a week and photographed Mary & Mark’s farm wedding in Georgia…….

…then jetted back to Wisconsin, this time to Door County for Kim & Brian’s Destination Engagement Session. My friend Molly had been telling me about Door County and I was so lucky to get to travel there for Kim & Brian’s session. We did a two day shoot, one on the rock beach/water, and one in the apple orchards the next day.

Then, a stop in Milwaukee for Melissa & Mike’s engagement session.

Then back to Atlanta for some more second shooting with Robin, then a trip to Mississippi for Katie & Kacey’s traditionally southern affair.

The fall rounded out with Dana & Danny’s stunning Amelia Island wedding in Florida. The gorgeous trees draped with spanish moss sitting on the marsh were a perfect backdrop for the bride & groom.

My final wedding of the year was a great one – Jaime & Scott’s wedding at King Plow Arts Center. I just love this venue, it is one of my favorites in Georgia, for its old brick walls & charming space. Jaime & Scott inserted a very modern design aesthetic into the old brick warehouse and it complimented the space perfectly. I absolutely loved the ghost chairs and candlelight – so pretty!

And, in what is hopefully becoming a yearly tradition, The Italy Girls met in Chicago for a little reunion get-together. Of course we had to do a shoot and so glad that we did. I don’t get to see snow much, and just loved this shoot in the falling snow.

I think it is fitting to end with this photo of The Italy Girls. I don’t think all of my achievements in 2010 would have been accomplished if I would not have attended Jose Villa’s Italy Workshop back in late 2009. It really propelled me to better my skills and aim my goals much higher in 2010. In addition, I’m so glad to have met these girls at the workshop. Our friendships truly grew in 2010 and I can’t thank them enough for all of their friendship & advice. It’s so nice to have colleagues like these girls in this industry.

Cheers to a fabulous 2010 and an even more spectacular 2011!!!!! I have some big surprises coming in 2011 and can’t wait to share some new things with everyone!
