It’s a beautiful day for love! Happy Valentine’s to all of the love birds out there. I have a special treat for you today, and it’s a new offering from MSP – A Love Shoot! Brittany & Pat contacted me last year to shoot an anniversary/trash the dress session for them in beautiful Lexington, Kentucky. I loved the idea of a couple celebrating their anniversary with photos & commemorating their wedding day a year later, thus I’m calling this session a “Love Shoot”. Brittany & Pat decided to have a sweet picnic in downtown Lexington at a park. They personalized their session with meaningful items in their relationship – their love of Mad Men, their vintage bikes, a champagne picnic complete with vintage cameras (their love of photography) & magazines. Brittany & Pat also included their dog McGruff, who unfortunately could not attend their wedding. He was so cute and was a great model for me.

Brittany & Pat also wanted to honor their Kentucky home & shoot at Brittany’s Dad’s horsefarm. They have a great love for horses and it was a perfect way to complete their session. If you’ve never been to the Lexington area, you really should see it at least once in your life. The rolling hills of bluegrass fields coupled with the miles and miles of wooden fences is absolutely beautiful! The setting was perfect and we even got to see some horses. Brittany was so excited to wear her beautiful Lazaro gown again & Pat looked dashing in his seersucker suit & red bowtie.

I also asked Brittany & Pat a few questions about their shoot & the first year of their marriage:
What was your inspiration for the shoot?
-For the Anniversary photos our inspiration definitely came from the television show, Mad Men. It?s one of our favorite shows to watch and we love the classic, elegant, vintage style. However, we still wanted the photos to be about us, which is where our bicycles, the champagne, cameras and magazine came in to play.
For the Trash the Dress shoot our inspiration was really just the rustic back drop provided by the farm, horses and hay. Our goal was classic and country chic and I feel like it really came across that way in the photos.
The Anniversary and Trash the Dress shoot was a fun way to commemorate our first year of marriage and now we have these gorgeous photos we can show to our children in the future. I know how much I love to look at old photos of our families, so hopefully our kids will enjoy these some day.
We had initially talked about doing a ?trash the dress? right after our wedding. Looking back on it now, I?m so glad I waited until our 1 year Anniversary to take the photos. It was so much fun to wear my wedding dress a 2nd time and relive all of the memories and excitement from our wonderful wedding day.
Tell us the best thing about your first year of marriage?
-Bride’s perspective
The excitement of having my best friend by my side every day. We didn’t live together prior to getting married and it’s been a lot of fun to share a home, become our own little family and start new traditions of our own. It’s nice to have someone to come home to.
-Groom’s perspective
The best thing about the first year of Marriage is getting to wake up every morning next to my wife and living with my best friend. We have so much fun everyday just messing around.
What advice would you give to newlyweds?
-Bride’s perspective
Never stop flirting and never stop falling in love with one and other. The day I married Pat I didn’t think I could ever be more in love, I was wrong. With each passing day my heart grows even fuller with love for him and I know it will never change. Too often people fall into a routine, take one another for granted and forget to keep falling in love – I will not be that person. Marrying Pat was the best decision I’ve ever made and I can’t imagine a life without him.
-Groom’s perspective
Don’t take stuff to seriously, just have fun and everything else will fall into place. If something is really bothering you talk to your significant other, explain its importance to you, and hopefully they will understand. Do the same for them.
